Common questions
The things people ask us first
How much does it cost to hire a forklift?
Hire is quoted by the week. The hire page lists example weekly rates by model, and the used machines above show their own weekly rate where we have one. You can take a machine for a single day, but the minimum charge is a week.
Can I hire a machine while mine is being repaired?
Yes. Covering a breakdown is one of the standard reasons to hire, and it is what the hire fleet is there for: one comes out to you so the work carries on while your own machine is being put right.
How often does a forklift need a thorough examination?
Every 12 months for a standard counterbalance truck. Every 6 months if it lifts people, which includes a forklift fitted with a working platform, and every 6 months for lifting accessories. An examination scheme drawn up by a competent person is an alternative to those fixed intervals rather than an override of them, and damage, a long spell out of use or a major modification triggers an examination of its own whenever the last one was done.
Is a LOLER thorough examination the same as PUWER?
No. LOLER covers the lifting side of the machine and PUWER covers the rest of it, so a truck needs both. We are accredited by CFTS, the scheme created by the UK Materials Handling Association, which means both are covered in one visit and one report rather than two separate jobs. A full thorough examination runs to 19 checks.
Do you look after machines you did not supply?
Yes, and it is a large part of what we do. Servicing, thorough examinations, repairs and parts across the whole fleet, whoever supplied it, on forklifts, warehouse equipment, access equipment and MEWPs, and on lifting accessories.
What happens if a truck breaks down out of hours?
The office runs Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm, and the breakdown callout line runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. An engineer attending a breakdown carries a callout charge and travel on top of the work itself. Customers on a repair contract or a service plan get priority, including after-hours callouts.
